The purpose of the preset is to maintain a specific general for big bosses. Remember, this does NOT go off the troops in your preset. Join Rallies: While there are no bosses to set or after attempting to set 5 bosses, it will join some rallies for a little bit. Consume Stamina: Consumes stamina if you run out.Ĥ. Do not worry, you won’t get wounded if you set this up correctly!ģ. Safe Guard: Not yet implemented - does nothing at the moment - the plan is to have it check your monarch power every so often to protect you from many wounded in the case you put in wrong settings or someone is sending full marches to your rally. Having a “weak” preset with “Use list general” is highly recommended, so that you may not run out of presets to defeat bosses, as these low level bosses are common.Ģ. If there is a Event Boss level 2, it will select the “weakest” preset and not waste your strong preset to defeat it. The bot will smartly pick which preset to use! So do not worry. Additionally, you have “Use List General” checked - because you know you can comfortably defeat level 2 event bosses with random generals. + Preset 5 can be a “weak” preset - you have it set to defeat Event boss level 2 and less, and b10s. + Preset 4 has your second strongest general, and you have it set to G3 and less, and b11-b13. You have it set to defeat Event Boss Level 4 or less, and have it set to defeat B13, B14, and B15 + Preset 3 has your strongest cav general, and you have 1.5m t14 troops in the preset settings. I applied my first brush marks to the inner folds of the petals where they are darkest in tone, then using a rinsed and blotted brush, I blended the color outwards to become lighter at the tips. (You’ll find a list of all the colors I used for this painting below). I begin painting the flower from the center outwards using a medium strength mixture of quinacridone rose. Watercolor Rose Step by Stepīegin by transferring the outline of the rose onto a sheet of watercolor paper and tape it down to a flat board using masking tape. It’s a good way to familiarize yourself with a subject. I find it can be useful to do a loose watercolor sketch like this before you commit to the final painting. I added a quick background using a contrasting green color to help the flower stand out on the page. I just want the overall tonal values to look approximately right. I’m not really worried about blending edges at this stage. A single layer of diluted paint is enough for these shapes.Īs a final touch I add a few brush marks of darker paint to the most shaded parts of the flower, such as the folds on the lowest petals, and the core of the rose which is generally quite dark because of the concentration of closely spaced petals in the center. And I leave the petals at the top and on the outer edges light in color. I use a glazing technique to add more layers of paint to strengthen the values of the underside of the rose which would logically be more shaded. And I make the inner folds of the petals darker because these are the parts which are the most shaded. You can see that I try to leave some white highlights for the tips of the petals where they would be the most exposed to light. I paint the petal shapes, keeping in mind the overall rules for shading. I begin with a very light and diluted pink color, charged with some yellow for a bit of variety. The idea is to do a loose painting as a warm up for the final watercolor, so I’m not trying to be very accurate with my brush strokes and at the same time I can test out my paint mixtures. Watercolor Rose Sketchīefore tackling the final painting I did a quick watercolor rendering, following the “tonal value rules” we just described.įirst I sketched a freehand version of a rose which approximates the geometry of the flower, with tightly spaced petals in the center and larger unfolding petals on the outside. Simply keeping these ideas in mind about how the light and shading changes across the surface of the flower is enough to be able to paint a reasonable interpretation of a watercolor rose without even trying to copy the subject exactly. The combined effect is that the tonal values of a rose get progressively darker from top to bottom (light at the top and dark at the base), and from the tips of the petals towards the center as they gradually become hidden from the light. When you draw these three basic elements you start to get something which resembles a rose.Īs a general rule when a rose is lit from above, the upper part of the rose will appear lighter than the bottom part.Īlso, because of the way the petals converge towards the center of the rose, each petal will look lighter at the tip and get progressively darker as it reaches the heart of the flower. The outside of the cup is surrounded by bigger petals which progressively curve outwards and unfold. The center of this cup contains a series of smaller closely packed petals that make up the inside of the rose. The overall form of a rose can be compared to a cup. Understanding the structure like this will help us to figure out how it interacts with light and shadow. The sketches below simplify the anatomy of a rose into basic geometric shapes. Roses are fairly complex looking flowers which can make them seem difficult to paint. Instead, we get some ho-hum mother/son dynamics and a lazy satire of consumerism gone bad.Īlthough Mark Hamill has a great time as the voice of Chucky, I didn't like the look of the new doll. Amidst all the slicing and dicing, the filmmakers give the audience one genuinely funny, splatter moment involving a kid, making me wish it had the balls to lean more heavily in that direction. energy, but it's in the service of fairly pedestrian set pieces. Bateman possesses more than a whiff of Henry Thomas's E.T. I think she enjoys the campy aspects, but she tends to make the capable Bateman do most of the heavy lifting while she seemingly and silently judges the bad movie in which she stars. Our leads do well enough with their underwritten roles, although maternal instincts don't quite sit well on the hilariously nihilistic Plaza, creating an emotional void in the story. Cue a series of red-eyed, knife-wielding, bloody killings…repeat until you can't take it anymore, and you pretty much know the rest.ĭirector Lars Klevberg and writer Tyler Burton Smith clearly have an affinity for the 80s aesthetic of the original, so much that they seemingly repeat most of its tropes, including a lighting scheme composed of colorful filters, a sequence in which our hero "locks and loads" his ammo in preparation for battle, a damsel in distress, and an animatronic doll who gets busy with a knife and a limited series of maniacal facial expressions. Andy, of course, renames him Chucky, who, through the use of modern computer technology, collects massive amounts of data on anyone or anything around him. Karen, the single mother of young Andy (Gabriel Bateman), wants to make her son happy but doesn't have enough money to buy him much of anything, so she blackmails her terrible boss into letting her take Buddi home. Of course, our Buddi doll ends up in the hands of a consumer who returns her defective present to Karen (Plaza), who works behind the counter at a Target-esque superstore. In the original, a psychopath dies and takes over the soul of an innocent toy, but, hey, it's 2019 Trump's America, so why not go the whole xenophobic route and blame the ills of mankind on an Asian person? Still, I'm willing to go with this concept under the guise that the movie aims to be worldly instead of racist…which is a stretch but there's still 88 minutes left of this dumb film, so I gotta hang my hat on something. Things start offensively enough when a disgruntled Vietnamese factory worker, furious that he's just been fired, deactivates the filters on one of the Buddi dolls, taking away his filters which prevent him from swearing and, oh yeah, murdering people. Child's Play gets a perfunctory update just so the storyline can include things like apps and drones, but at its core, it wishes so hard that it was actually made in the 80s that it ends up feeling redundant. Who's darker? The deadpan goth chick or the murderous doll? I don't know, but I couldn't wait to find out…and then I saw the movie. On paper, Aubrey Plaza in a reboot of a 1988 horror classic sounds like a match made in that forbidding recess of hell I'd love to visit. Show Less Show MoreĬHUCK IT - My Review of CHILD'S PLAY (2 Stars) The original Chucky is still the number one true Chucky in my opinion and this is just an interesting fresh take on a true cult film. It begs the question why they didn't make a whole new character and attempt a fresh story idea. This film is a little soulless and I blame the filmmaker decision on this. I thought the decision to reboot was a haste decision and without true merit, considering the devotion I have for the core series. I love the original series and will be re-watching the series for Halloween. The film is quite shocking and it serves up some twisted evil by the new Chucky doll. Chucky just lacks the personality that Dourif has established and Hamill hasn't got the right film to be immersed in to clearly set him apart from the core franchise. Child's Play didn't need a reboot when the original filmmaker is still punching out content for the current series. Fans of the original series will be slightly annoyed here, and justly so.
